I think OmniFocus has reached Star Wars status – a term I may have coined, I don’t know. Essentially, it means that it’s so awesome that lots of us fans will now claim how to do it better.
I’m not saying that OmniFocus cannot be improved or that the suggestions aren’t worthwhile. For all I know, there can be many useful ideas in the various (some kind, some almost vitriolic?) posts. What I am saying is …
Congratulations Omni for achieving Star Wars status!
- The forums have been abuzz about OmniGroup going silent
- To which CEO Ken Case provided some thoughts in an interview with Sven Fechner
- A graphic reboot suggestion at the forums
- Two recent posts at Pxldot Part 1 and Part 2
Take a particular look at Chris’ page – the design of his presentation itself is pretty fantastic.
I do agree that OF is amazing, but the only thing I am worried about is the follow up of OF2. That is not going very StarWars like……
Ken and Omnigroup must have nerves of steel to do a big public beta like they have with OF2. The entitlement attitude shown in many of the responses to the “Going Quiet” post was amazing to me. I can understand why Apple says almost nothing about future products until they ship.
I, too, was impressed with the site showing Chris’ proposed OF redesign. I didn’t agree with all the points in his posts ( planning dates?), but it was an awesome way to communicate his design thoughts.
I like your term Star Wars Status. I think GTD has also reached the same status. I’m not sure how it will go, though, if like Star Wars, this means Disney will eventually acquire Omnifocus. 🙂
I can only imagine the pressure on the OmniGroup. We’ll see how things shape up.
