Something that fascinates me about mindfulness is the tendency to forget to reflect upon experience. Fleeting moments appear where we may chance upon the consideration “I am here and this is my experience”.
The feeling is expected to remain or return regularly. More often, however, reflection does not tend to occur of its own accord. Perhaps it seems odd to make a point to dedicate a moment in the day to simply reflect. But, without doing so, we risk losing the strength it offers. Reflection upon experience reinforces and builds experience, in turn. It creates the sense that we are who we are, gives a vitality to the moment, and a sense that we may stand upon it.
